The demand for public transport is growing but there is still a lack of information. In a previous post we talked about improving the quality of public transport, so today we’ll focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence in Public Transport.

Although this is a key information to plan an efficient service, normally the demand of passengers is unknown and the data is still collected in a very traditional way: through house surveys, questionnaires on board or manually. In addition, these are specific studies that only represent a snapshot of a specific moment, while the demand is much more varied and fluctuates.

This lack of alignment with the real needs of users causes crowds and long waiting times. The results are costly and damage users’ satisfaction.

In this public transport model, there are 3 re-circulations:

1. Operations: It’s a short cycle, which can happen every 10 minutes. According to the occupation, correction measures can be taken in real time.

2. Planning: In the medium and long term, you can evaluate the effectiveness and what changes to carry out in frequency and routes planning to optimize the supply/demand fit.

3. Demand: Offering information to the user in real time allows him to plan his journey, so the demand is self-managed.
